Dacula High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia, contracted with ACWM for their prom. The venue was the large room in the Gwinnett Civic Center, located in Duluth. Included in their total experience was a large sound system, lots of lights, and video projected on a big screen of the dancers and partygoers. Some of the teachers and staff of the school formed a band and played a 45 minute set for the students about halfway through the prom. The rest of the time, it was the ACWM staff and friends that brought 750 people a life moment to remember. The pictures are thumbnails, and can be brought to full size by clicking on them. The stage for the band, next to the ACWM stage. Here is the DJ stage in various phases of setup. To put the whole setup together took a crew of three about three hours to set in place, and about an hour to mix and tweak the sound for the large, cavernous, echo-prone room. A very good friend and associate, Brett Reece (left), gives Pete Goodrich instruction on setting up the light show. We owe a lot to these two! Brett helped us tune the rig for a great sound, and Pete was the ace lighting tech for the day, as well as the loaner of lights. The heart of the system for the night. To drive six speakers and four subs, it took three amps and sound processing from a little unit in the upper left rack called a Driverack PA. Crown Macrotech amps and a QSC amp put out thousands of watts. To feed the system, we had two mixers, five CD players, and (not pictured) a computer system with thousands of songs. Also not pictured is the video system, run by another close associate, Jeff Crecilius. You will not see Bill in the pics, as he managed to avoid the camera that night. The top (from left) pic is Darrell (behind PC) and Pete. Top right is Darrell hamming it up for the camera. Second row left is Darrell and Pete. Notice the open rack. No one can see it because of the speakers in front, and the dark ambient light in the room! The equipment stays cooler and lessens a small risk of thermal issues with that amp. Second row right and below is Jeff, the video guru who did a fantastic job of putting the dancers and crowd action on the big screen all night. The final touches... In addition to the ACWM lighting rig, Dacula High also had a designer that brought in many of the accent lights placed around the room. In the top picture, notice the masks projected on the wall, the accent lights below the masks, and the ACWM video screen on the left, just prior to the doors opening for the night. The picture at the bottom shows a roomful of students enjoying the night and cheering on a breakdancer!
